The diskmag engine is being coded by Plek of Solar and Damage, musics and graphics will probably come from Harlekin of Success and Bizk/Damage. Shifter has revealed to Hugi that besides to the Windows version, there might be a port to the Playstation 2, too. "Content-wise, Cheese will be full of rage, bile and mayhem slightly slanted towards the scene like it was in the old days. Rants, vendettas and pure insanity are welcome to nest in our loins." Erratum.

In the Hugi 23 newscorner it was erroneously stated that 003 were a demo by Surprise!Productions. In reality it is a 64k intro by foobug & Scoopex. Sorry for the misinformation!

eva: 1st Portuguese diskmag

The demogroups Airbag and uva are working on the first Portuguese diskmag. It will probably be called eva (short for evolution chamber). The main editor will be kript0n of razor1911 and uva. There will also be contributions from the "all-round-known" ps/cd^tpolm. It is not clear yet when the first issue will be released; due to the small size of the Portuguese scene, it's hard to get contributions. However, the magazine will be in English language. It will focus on providing tutorials for beginning coders, trackers and graphic artists. For more info: void.box.sk/eva

Hugi: Presentation at art congress

Hugi was presented at the first ncc48 netart community congress, which took place in Graz/Austria on October 25-27. This event was organized by the local cultural association mur.at and sponsored by several major institutions such as universities and the Austrian chancellor's office. Adok explained the diskmag concept and demonstrated its potential for multimedial presentation of literature by means of screenshots and working examples. In order to explain the cultural context, he also gave a quick introduction to the demoscene. Thanks to Martin Krusche of unplugged.at, organizer of the section of the event on net-literature, for the invitation to speak at the congress. For more information: ncc.mur.at.

Another news: The historical issue, Hugi 11 (the one that made Hugi an international magazine), has been re-released for Windows. The new version is based on Street Raider's engine from Hugi 17. If you feel some nostalgy or just want to enhance your Hugi collection: hugi11 page at www.hugi.de.

There's also a new version of the Linux reader coded by Bonz. It now supports 16 bit graphics modes. You need libggi 2.x and libmikmod to run it. Get it from the alternative interfaces page at www.hugi.de.

Sol releases textmode library.

Sol's coding page, which stores a lots of sources, was updated. One new file is the fourth revision of the TextFX textmode graphics library. Sol describes it as: "Majorly rewritten c++ version of my old textfx routines. Includes two separate rendering methods: the old blocky color mode, and new ascii art mode. Both methods are used through the same interface. Mainly targeted towards WinNT console, but the core of the code should compile as-is under DOS as well, if anyone really needs that anymore. Also includes c++ version of my fli/flc player."

For people who prefer using over coding, Sol has also made a Textmode windows media player. It's "a DirectShow application that outputs video into NT console. Supports almost everything windows media player does, eg. avis, mpegs, vmw's, etc. Also plays sound." Try watching a cinema movie with that program, it's quite interesting.

In this context: Taat are organizing another Textmode Demo Competition. Check out taat.fi.

Trebel has launched.

Until a couple of months ago, nobody would have believed that Trbel would ever see the light. But the reality looks brighter: After two years of silence, Trebel has finally launched. It's rather different from the original concept. Instead of serving as an archive, it's more like a portal with some elements of an online magazine. An interesting feature is the Demo Effect Dictionary. Check it out: trebel.org. (At the moment of typing this news Trebel appears to be down - or has it disappeared for ever again?)

Unseen voice: graphics

Tatlin has sent me a very brief mail. It says that "something new has happened". It seems like he wanted to point me to graphics from unseen voice at www.tatlin.net. Unseen voice has also released some desktops.

Video Documentary.

Kemical of Razor 1911 reported at Ojuice: "For my fundamentals of video class, I'm working on a small documentary on the artscene side of the demoscene. It would be VERY helpful, if you could record a very short (30-60 sec or less) testimony in wav or mp3, of how you got involved in this style of artwork, why you enjoy it & about your artwork etc. If you can take the 5mins to do this, and email it to me along with your handle & groupname, it would be highly appreciated. ALSO if you want to do it in your own language, that is excellent, please just include a typed translation of what you say :) Thank you!" kemical@telocity.com
